The PTT Branch is not just a post office, but also a bank. This dual functionality was the core principle behind the design. The aim was to create a space where customers could easily navigate and complete their transactions, whether they were banking or postal. The designers divided the PTT transactions into two main groups and created separate customer journeys for each. This simplistic approach has made the branch more accessible and efficient.
Long-lasting materials like laminated MDF, glass panels, fabric, luxury vinyl tiles, vinyl printing, and acrylic were used in the construction of the branch. These materials were chosen not only for their durability but also for their availability across Turkey, as the design will be implemented in approximately 4000 different branches.
The design process was informed by extensive research. A qualitative study was conducted to understand the existing services of PTT and how they could be improved. The research identified several problems, such as customers not knowing where to go when they entered the branch and uncomfortable seating. These issues were addressed in the design, resulting in a better customer experience.
One of the main challenges faced by the designers was changing the perception of PTT, which had a settled system for years. The old and bulky governmental perception was difficult to modernize. However, the designers succeeded in creating a fresh, modern look for the PTT Branch, which has been well received by customers.
The PTT Branch is a testament to the power of design in transforming service models. By combining banking and postal services in a user-friendly environment, I-AM has created a design that is not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing. The success of the PTT Branch is a clear indication of the potential for design to revolutionize traditional service models.
